Outfit Post- My Truth Behind Fashion Week

Photos by – Yunn Chin Photography

It is a daunting thing going to Fashion Week as a new blogger, I found myself asking so many questions; what do I do, what do I say, how do I start a conversation and most importantly WHAT WAS I GOING TO WEAR!!!!?

What was even more intimidating was that I didn’t know anyone going, except for my boyfriend/photographer Chin, who would be in the media pit for most of Fashion Week taking the photos for the runway shows.
I found myself questioning everything about myself; the way I talk, the way I act, my style, I was even insecure about how I laughed.  I mean, yes…… I know I have the tendency to overthink and stress about nothing but this was a probably the biggest event that I have ever gone to and studying fashion, I was not going to take it lightly.

I had always seen myself as someone who is quite confident, comfortable in my own skin and not caring much about what someone else thinks, however, this was such a true test to my character. I had felt like it was the first day of high school all over again, wanting so badly to be accepted and to fit in. By the second day, all these insecurities had taken a toll on me emotionally, I had realised that I was trying so hard to fit in that I started to loose sight of the personality that I so proudly wore and the self expressive style which made me feel comfortable in my own skin. Even Chin noticed a uncomfortable change in me, I mean, what can I say, when you are surrounded by so many gorgeous people and models with a flawless aesthetic and impeccable style the feeling of insignificance is inevitable. I am so grateful though that I had him there, he reminded me about what was important and the reason I had taken the time out to commit myself to the event. I was able to shake myself out of it and start anew, without having such expectations weighing so heavily on me.

The third day into Fashion Week, I woke up that morning and stopped caring about what other people thought of me. Instead, I did what I wanted to do, wore what I wanted to wear and laughed the way I wanted to laugh (even though sometimes I sound like a dying donkey hahaha!). I realised that I wasn’t questioning myself, because of the way people treated me or the way they judged me, if anything most people were down to earth and really easy to approach. It was me being my own enemy; I was the one who was holding myself back and I was the one who started to change myself into what I thought would be accepted when all along it was fine being myself. Once again my insecurities had almost gotten the best of me but this time I’d like to think of myself as the victor.

I guess what I’m trying to share with you is that, just like everyone else’s life, everything is not always rainbows and butterflies and I would be lying if I said I was perfect. In my previous posts I have shared with you what I had seen at Fashion Week and who I had met, I thought it was also important to be truthful and share how I had felt during the whole experience. It was such an amazing opportunity and what I personally took away from Fashion Week was that it is important to stay true to who you are, stay grounded and don’t be afraid to be you. You know what they say “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it”

Anyways, enough of the serious chatter, now for some visual communication, here are the outfits I wore at Fashion Week, There is one more outfit that I will be posting from that week so keep an eye out for it 🙂

Thanks again for visiting everyone and I hope have an amazing weekend !!!

To get you guys updated, you haven’t heard from me in a bit because I have been working on some really special posts for the month of March, since it is…….*drum roll* THE 1ST BIRTHDAY OF FASHIONDICTION!!!! WOOT WOOT!

Outfit Post – Summer Swimwear Part 2

Bikini Top – Victoria’s Secret | Bikini Bottom – American Apparel

Photos taken by – Yunn Chin Photography

HAPPY AUSTRALIA DAY EVERYONE!!!

I love 60s fashion so much that I just couldn’t help but do a part 2 of the 60s swimwear inspired outfit post.
Just like in part 1, I mixed and matched the bikini bottoms from American Apparel and bikini top from Victoria’s Secret.
The bright floral prints and eccentric summer colours have summer fun all over it and this is exactly why it is one of my favourite things to wear to the beach.

As you’ve guessed from my greeting, it’s Australia day here down under!!!
It’s the one day in Australia that we celebrate being truly Aussie; going to the beach, having BBQs with the fam bams, meeting up with loved ones and pretty much spending all day in the sun.

With that said, I’m going to keep it short and sweet today but wherever you are, in Australia or not, I hope your are having an awesome weekend 🙂

Thanks for visiting and I’m looking forward to catching up with you on Tuesday with a new outfit post 😉

Bikini Top – Victoria’s Secret | Bikini Bottom – American Apparel

Now it’s no secret that I am in love with 60s fashion. If you haven’t already guessed from seeing the 60s inspired photoshoot I styled last year, I have a lot of clothes that have a 60s resemblance and that doesn’t excuse the swimwear I have hiding in my closet.

For years I had constantly been on the search to finding high-waisted swimwear, it wasn’t particularly popular at the time (people did say it reminded them of their grandmothers). But to me, I saw it as classic, elegant and most importantly it covered my incredibly deep belly button (no really, I’m not just saying that, it is seriously a deep looking belly button hahaha!).
It wasn’t until, my trip to America, that I had finally found bottoms that were perfect! Of course I had found it in American Apparel, one of my favourite clothing brands, which usually has fun, youthful and modern fashion.
I mixed and matched the bottoms with a cute bikini top from Victoria’s Secret, that I had also scored in America. This top was the perfect balance of cute and playful, not to mention it fits like a dream!

I don’t usually wear lipstick or make up to the beach hahahaha! I thought it would just be fun to include it in this post and to pay homage to 60s fashion.

Thanks again for visiting and stay tuned for part 2 😉

Outfit Post – Crunch Time

Leather Jacket  – Revival | T-shirt dress – Mink | Boots – ZU

Photos taken by Yunn Chin Photography

It has exactly been a week since I’ve posted! It’s reaching that time again where I am getting overwhelmed with assessments, work, bills and other commitments.

Until now, I thought I was doing quite well; staying calm, keeping everything together and I was even posting regularly (I have going to the gym regularly and eating healthy to thank for that). Until recently everything came crashing down.

I think I just got a little overwhelmed with everything. It’s so much harder trying to do everything by myself, trying to be an independent woman is tough!!!! Hahaha!  But the upside is I have 2 weeks of stressful assessments whilst juggling work and I can finally breathe. Plus I know all this pressure and stress will benefit me once I’ve completed my studies.

So I will try to at least post once a week if not twice the next two weeks, no more of this business were I disappear for 3 weeks hahah!

Moving on, I’ve been really excited to share this outfit post with you guys 🙂 I bought this T-shirt dress at Mink for super cheap and it is super comfortable!!! It is a tad bit short but I fix that by wearing black shorts underneath to stop the unwanted flash.Since the top is a light grey, I find it looks best teaming it with bold colours like black and a touch of red. To complete the look I popped on my white boots, which I also got on sale (SCORE!). This compliments the white print on the dress underneath the jacket.

Thanks for visiting 🙂

Mixed Business

Hat – Stussy | Cardigan – Vintage | Disco Pants – American Apparel | Top – Supre | Sneakers – Nike | lippy – Rebel by MAC

Photographer – Yunn Chin

I’m all for dressing the way you want without caring what anyone else thinks. However, with so many guidelines and rules around dress codes for work, college and everyday events, drilled into our subconscious. We find ourselves asking questions like “Does this look respectable?” “ Is this too crazy?” or “ Is this appropriate”.

Besides the fact that my work and college are not very strict about dress code, it still doesn’t stop the questions that affect my insecurities.

The two days that these rules and dress code regulations don’t apply are the Weekends!

I view my weekends as my creative escape; these are the days I wear whatever I want without a second thought.

This outfit is something I threw on in seconds rushing to get out the house. I was aiming for something warm, comfortable, fun and colourful. I mixed the old with the new, wearing a vintage cardigan and showed off my Nike’s with my teal polka-dot Stussy hat.

What do you wear to mix things up in your wardrobe?

Highlighter

Beanie – Sportsgirl | Jumper – August Street | Disco Pants – American Apparel | Bag –Miss Shop | Sneakers – Converse

This winter I’ve been drawn to earthy, cameo colours and especially neon.

Luckily for me, these past couple of months I’ve been finding neon items on sale everywhere! YERRRRR! What better way to show off these items than throwing it all together in one outfit 😉

Beanie – Sportsgirl $10
Bag – Miss Shop $7 (Yup that’s right, I scored it in the Myer sales)
Jumper – August Street $30 (label warehouse sale)

Neon is a tricky one to style, since it doesn’t go with a lot of general colours. I find that it goes best with dark colours such grey tones and its best friend black.

Wearing dark shades of lipstick goes hand in hand with neon and the darker shades will do you wonders for a classic winter look. The shade I’m wearing with this outfit is called Diva, from Mac :).

I wore this outfit to college and funny enough, we were using the projector that day and I happened to glow in the dark. So do yourself a favour and get your highlighter on!

Stay tuned for more winter outfit posts coming up over the weekend.

Thanks for visiting 🙂

The Boyfriend Trend

Boyfriend Jeans – Jay Jays | Blazer – ZARA | Shoes – Converse Chuck Lites

Photographer – Yunn Chin

The first time I came across this trend (sometime late 2011- early 2012) I thought for sure that I would never be able to pull it off.

As time passed, my choices and preferences have changed. Influenced by style icons and the fashionistas that I follow, it wasn’t till recently that I’ve been dying to have a pair to call my own.

I usually like rocking my out there colorful style, however, seeing these jeans take me back to my missed tomboy days.

So a couple of weeks ago I dragged my boyfriend Chin with me to find the perfect boyfriend jeans.

Now if you’re like me; broke, picky and difficult to fit. It can be hard finding the pair that is right for you.

Here are some (and when I say some, I really mean a small third) of the stores I visited and what I found:

Glue – They had a couple of styles to choose from, ranging from light to dark, great strong material and plenty of sizes to fit all. The only thing that bothered me was the prices, ranging from $180 – 200 and up, which I would happily spend if I found the right fit for me. But in this case, it was definitely out of a full time students price range and my version of perfect was no where to be seen.

Sportsgirl – I had big hopes walking into Sportsgirl, known for their up to date trends and stylish range of clothes. However, I found they were out of stock and out of my size :(. They did have some good substitutes in pleather and jersey material so I would definitely recommend paying them a visit.

Valleygirl – Know for their affordable fashion I did find a pair that was the right shade of stone washed denim but they too were out of my size. When I walked into their second store, in the same shopping center, they didn’t even know what boyfriend jeans were …… fashion retail FAIL!

Mossimo – Didn’t stock the boyfriend jeans but I did buy a really cool top which will be featured on here soon hehehe.

General Pants – Also a good range in style and sizes but if you’re like me, it definitely burns a hole through your pockets.

Zero – I finally found a pair that was the right size, the right shade and even though it was $200 I thought “Whatever, I’m over it! I should take it and go!” It wasn’t until my boyfriend Chin convinced me not to settle and just to keep looking (aw! bless his sweet supportive heart).

Just before I was about to give up and call it a day, we decided that we would try one more store and of course, it was in that last store that I found it! Finally after a whole day of disappointment, my perfect pair was in JAY JAYS!  Yup that’s right, good old affordable Jay Jays. They had a good range of sizes (including mine), the right colour and it was only $60!

So if your looking for your very own boyfriend jeans which is good quality and don’t mind spending a pretty penny, definitely check out Glue, General Pants and Zero.

But if you’re looking to save hundreds, get yours at Jay Jays.

If you’re not in a rush to get a pair, go online on ASOS, they have big range and offer sizes for the petite and curvy.

After wearing these jeans over and over again, they are awesome! Totally comfortable, can be worn casually as well as chic. Just between you and me, they are my new fat pants since its so baggy hehehe.

What do you think about the new boyfriend trend?

Next week I’ll be posting the final photos from the Bridal shoot I styled, so stay tuned.

Thanks for visiting, I’ll see you guys on Monday, have a good weekend 🙂

Funny story behind this photo, when we were taking photos, my brother Mark came to help. It was here that we thought it would be a funny idea to have him randomly stand in the background just for fun, almost imitating an ad. The photo was never going to be featured on the blog but it turned out so good so I had to share it with you hehehe.

Akina Bridal Couture Photoshoot – Behind The Scenes

Behind the scenes photographer – Yunn Chin

There is a first time for everything and styling this bridal shoot was definitely a first for me.

Before every shoot during the research, planning and preparation stages, this is the time where the vision I’m trying to portray becomes clear as day. However, since I had never styled bridal before, I was unsure of which direction to go.

It was the photographer Nelson Cortez (also the photographer behind the (Photoshoot with Versace, Emporio Armani and Gai Mattiolo) who assured me that I would do fine and looking back now I’m so grateful for that little push of encouragement, resulting in such beautiful images.

Even though the end result was so much more amazing than I could of imagined. There are definitely some improvements that I would make from my end that could of really helped during the photoshoot. That’s what I love about styling, every time I do a shoot, I always look at the things I could have done better and take it as learning experience to better myself.

This time we had a big team of makeup artists, hair stylists, gorgeous models and photographers, which consisted of some of the most talented people I have met so far.

The gowns we were working with were from Akina Bridal Couture and each gown was beautiful, seriously! Having a small fashion design background, I really appreciated the craft and sensitivity seen throughout the designs by owner and designer Tracy Woodham.

Here are some behind the scene photos from the shoot, I’ll be posting the finished photos soon so stay tuned.
