The People of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Sydney

Photos by – Yunn Chin Photography

Since our first Fashion Week, blogging life has been crazier than ever! Definitely a response that we did not expect. However, we were pleasantly surprised and humbled by the amount of people who have taken an interest in what we do :). The down side is I have not been able to move at such a rapid pace, thus the delayed posts.
After catching a breath from the chaos, I have been able to re-organise and finally work to getting these posts up to date, starting with this one, YAY!!!

The people of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Sydney were both compelling and intriguing. I never imagined having the opportunity to attend such a celebrated event within the fashion world. In the past, I had imagined it as walking into what I would think is the equivalent of a dream like circus but in fashion. With gorgeous people who wore crazy outfits that were strange, aesthetically confusing, however, entertaining, shocking and at times humorous. I would never be able to make sense of why people would wear what they wore and the thought process behind it…..was it to seek attention, maybe?
It was not until I myself had attended the event, interacted, conversed and immersed myself in Fashion Week that I started to answer those questions.

What I had taken away from the eventful week was that the thought process behind each outfit, it was not for entertainment, earning the right for fashion exclusivity, nor gaining attention from the public or media (for most anyway). It was purely for self expression, creativity and making a personal statement of who you are through what you wore. There was a beauty about it, the concept of wearing what you wanted without the insecurities of boundaries and judgement, usually received from the public who easily misunderstands an individuals fashion choice. Fashion Week was a chance to be expressive, use fashion as a language and communicate with those who share that common understanding. I loved every minute of Fashion Week, it was like Christmas but in different sense hahaha!

Here are some of the styles that caught my eye, some of the people that inspire me and some of the people that I look up to who I had the pleasure of meeting 🙂

Which one is your favourite outfit?

Thanks for visiting and I’ll see you tomorrow with some long overdue outfit posts hehehe.

K is for Konnie, such a pleasure meeting a fellow fashion blogger who is so inspiring with her unique sense of style.

Margaret-Zhang

Who couldn’t forget the stunning Margaret Zhang from Shine By Three, so breathtakingly beautiful and every time I see here I get completely star struck and embarrass myself with unthought of jumbled words (*sigh, shakes head*). Besides the first embarrassing encounter I had with her, I thought It would be best to keep my distance hahaha!. Till next time, maybe I’ll have the guts to say hi again.

MBFWA_2014_NicoleWarne

Of course my absolute favourite fashion blogger Nicole Warne from Gary Pepper Vintage. She is the epitome of beauty, inside and out, the very person who inspired me to start my road into fashion and the person who inspires me till this day. It was such a dream come true being in the presence of blogger royalty.

WhatIWear.com Event

Floral Shirt – ASOS  |  Dress – Cotton on  |  Socks – Sportsgirl  |  Bowler Hat – Tempt  |  Tote Bag – Michael Kors

Last Saturday I was invited to attend an event held by WhatIWear.com.

The event was for selected Sydney fashion bloggers to get to know each other and meet the people behind the site. The main aspect of the event was to communicate the type of community WhatIWear.com are aiming to portray through their new website. It was an opportunity for fashion bloggers to come together to share their insights and knowledge about all things fashion related.

In light of the event, they had given us colours to dress for the occasion; orange, black and white. Orange is not a colour I wear often, it was once a colour I hated, but has since grown on me.

It was truly refreshing walking into Guylian’s Café in Darling harbour (where the event was held) and seeing all these intimidatingly beautiful bloggers painted in the themed colours. Knowing that I’d be meeting other fashion bloggers, I have to admit, before the event I spent quite some time thinking about what to wear (hehehe).

But after meeting everyone, the nerves had settled and I realised that it was refreshing to converse with other fashion bloggers who shared the same interests. Being new to the blogging scene, I sometimes question if I’m doing it right or if I should be doing things differently. However, after speaking with the more experienced bloggers (some with three years under their belt), it was reassuring to know that after all their years of experience, they too have their doubts.

On the day, I wanted to showcase an outfit that was my usual quirky and fun style. I wore a simple black dress over a long sleeve floral top with a black contrast peter pan collar. To make the colour of the top pop, I teamed the outfit with orange socks and cream brogues. To top it off, I accessorised with a black bowler hat.

I was so lucky to meet all these new fashion bloggers based in Sydney, and it was great to know that we could still stay in touch through different types of social media.

This experience, meeting fashion bloggers, sharing common interests and finding people alike who love fashion is the type of community you’ll find on WhantIWear.com
