Outfit Post- My Truth Behind Fashion Week

Photos by – Yunn Chin Photography

It is a daunting thing going to Fashion Week as a new blogger, I found myself asking so many questions; what do I do, what do I say, how do I start a conversation and most importantly WHAT WAS I GOING TO WEAR!!!!?

What was even more intimidating was that I didn’t know anyone going, except for my boyfriend/photographer Chin, who would be in the media pit for most of Fashion Week taking the photos for the runway shows.
I found myself questioning everything about myself; the way I talk, the way I act, my style, I was even insecure about how I laughed.  I mean, yes…… I know I have the tendency to overthink and stress about nothing but this was a probably the biggest event that I have ever gone to and studying fashion, I was not going to take it lightly.

I had always seen myself as someone who is quite confident, comfortable in my own skin and not caring much about what someone else thinks, however, this was such a true test to my character. I had felt like it was the first day of high school all over again, wanting so badly to be accepted and to fit in. By the second day, all these insecurities had taken a toll on me emotionally, I had realised that I was trying so hard to fit in that I started to loose sight of the personality that I so proudly wore and the self expressive style which made me feel comfortable in my own skin. Even Chin noticed a uncomfortable change in me, I mean, what can I say, when you are surrounded by so many gorgeous people and models with a flawless aesthetic and impeccable style the feeling of insignificance is inevitable. I am so grateful though that I had him there, he reminded me about what was important and the reason I had taken the time out to commit myself to the event. I was able to shake myself out of it and start anew, without having such expectations weighing so heavily on me.

The third day into Fashion Week, I woke up that morning and stopped caring about what other people thought of me. Instead, I did what I wanted to do, wore what I wanted to wear and laughed the way I wanted to laugh (even though sometimes I sound like a dying donkey hahaha!). I realised that I wasn’t questioning myself, because of the way people treated me or the way they judged me, if anything most people were down to earth and really easy to approach. It was me being my own enemy; I was the one who was holding myself back and I was the one who started to change myself into what I thought would be accepted when all along it was fine being myself. Once again my insecurities had almost gotten the best of me but this time I’d like to think of myself as the victor.

I guess what I’m trying to share with you is that, just like everyone else’s life, everything is not always rainbows and butterflies and I would be lying if I said I was perfect. In my previous posts I have shared with you what I had seen at Fashion Week and who I had met, I thought it was also important to be truthful and share how I had felt during the whole experience. It was such an amazing opportunity and what I personally took away from Fashion Week was that it is important to stay true to who you are, stay grounded and don’t be afraid to be you. You know what they say “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it”

Anyways, enough of the serious chatter, now for some visual communication, here are the outfits I wore at Fashion Week, There is one more outfit that I will be posting from that week so keep an eye out for it 🙂

Thanks again for visiting everyone and I hope have an amazing weekend !!!

The People of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Sydney

Photos by – Yunn Chin Photography

Since our first Fashion Week, blogging life has been crazier than ever! Definitely a response that we did not expect. However, we were pleasantly surprised and humbled by the amount of people who have taken an interest in what we do :). The down side is I have not been able to move at such a rapid pace, thus the delayed posts.
After catching a breath from the chaos, I have been able to re-organise and finally work to getting these posts up to date, starting with this one, YAY!!!

The people of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Sydney were both compelling and intriguing. I never imagined having the opportunity to attend such a celebrated event within the fashion world. In the past, I had imagined it as walking into what I would think is the equivalent of a dream like circus but in fashion. With gorgeous people who wore crazy outfits that were strange, aesthetically confusing, however, entertaining, shocking and at times humorous. I would never be able to make sense of why people would wear what they wore and the thought process behind it…..was it to seek attention, maybe?
It was not until I myself had attended the event, interacted, conversed and immersed myself in Fashion Week that I started to answer those questions.

What I had taken away from the eventful week was that the thought process behind each outfit, it was not for entertainment, earning the right for fashion exclusivity, nor gaining attention from the public or media (for most anyway). It was purely for self expression, creativity and making a personal statement of who you are through what you wore. There was a beauty about it, the concept of wearing what you wanted without the insecurities of boundaries and judgement, usually received from the public who easily misunderstands an individuals fashion choice. Fashion Week was a chance to be expressive, use fashion as a language and communicate with those who share that common understanding. I loved every minute of Fashion Week, it was like Christmas but in different sense hahaha!

Here are some of the styles that caught my eye, some of the people that inspire me and some of the people that I look up to who I had the pleasure of meeting 🙂

Which one is your favourite outfit?

Thanks for visiting and I’ll see you tomorrow with some long overdue outfit posts hehehe.

K is for Konnie, such a pleasure meeting a fellow fashion blogger who is so inspiring with her unique sense of style.

Margaret-Zhang

Who couldn’t forget the stunning Margaret Zhang from Shine By Three, so breathtakingly beautiful and every time I see here I get completely star struck and embarrass myself with unthought of jumbled words (*sigh, shakes head*). Besides the first embarrassing encounter I had with her, I thought It would be best to keep my distance hahaha!. Till next time, maybe I’ll have the guts to say hi again.

MBFWA_2014_NicoleWarne

Of course my absolute favourite fashion blogger Nicole Warne from Gary Pepper Vintage. She is the epitome of beauty, inside and out, the very person who inspired me to start my road into fashion and the person who inspires me till this day. It was such a dream come true being in the presence of blogger royalty.

Outfit Posts – Never Before Seen (Unedited)

Hi Everyone!!!

Through the past year that I’ve been blogging, taking outfit photos is not all glamorous as the photos depict.

Most of my outfit posts have been taken by my photographer boyfriend, Chin and as compatible as we are, there are still the rare days that we don’t see eye to eye with the imagery that we are trying to translate in our photos.

Apart from that, there are also the occasional moments of when I’m having a bad day and I just don’t feel like taking pictures of my gloomy self.

Then there are the days that I feel unsure of myself, the days that I’m feeling super insecure………….THE UGLY DAYS! You know what I’m talking about hahaha!

Well this is exactly what this post is ALL about 🙂

All the outfits that never made it on the blog for all the above reasons and for whatever reasons that made us not share it at the time…..… until now kekeke.

So to celebrate the year that has past, here are never before seen outfits (unedited) 🙂

P.S. sorry if I’m grumpy in some of them hahahaha, at least you’ll be able to tell, which photos I was having a bad day in.

Thanks for visiting I’ll see you guys in my next post 😀

Outfit Post – Summer Swimwear Part 2

Bikini Top – Victoria’s Secret | Bikini Bottom – American Apparel

Photos taken by – Yunn Chin Photography

HAPPY AUSTRALIA DAY EVERYONE!!!

I love 60s fashion so much that I just couldn’t help but do a part 2 of the 60s swimwear inspired outfit post.
Just like in part 1, I mixed and matched the bikini bottoms from American Apparel and bikini top from Victoria’s Secret.
The bright floral prints and eccentric summer colours have summer fun all over it and this is exactly why it is one of my favourite things to wear to the beach.

As you’ve guessed from my greeting, it’s Australia day here down under!!!
It’s the one day in Australia that we celebrate being truly Aussie; going to the beach, having BBQs with the fam bams, meeting up with loved ones and pretty much spending all day in the sun.

With that said, I’m going to keep it short and sweet today but wherever you are, in Australia or not, I hope your are having an awesome weekend 🙂

Thanks for visiting and I’m looking forward to catching up with you on Tuesday with a new outfit post 😉

Outfit Post – Summer Swimwear Part 1

Bikini Top – Victoria’s Secret | Bikini Bottom – American Apparel

Now it’s no secret that I am in love with 60s fashion. If you haven’t already guessed from seeing the 60s inspired photoshoot I styled last year, I have a lot of clothes that have a 60s resemblance and that doesn’t excuse the swimwear I have hiding in my closet.

For years I had constantly been on the search to finding high-waisted swimwear, it wasn’t particularly popular at the time (people did say it reminded them of their grandmothers). But to me, I saw it as classic, elegant and most importantly it covered my incredibly deep belly button (no really, I’m not just saying that, it is seriously a deep looking belly button hahaha!).
It wasn’t until, my trip to America, that I had finally found bottoms that were perfect! Of course I had found it in American Apparel, one of my favourite clothing brands, which usually has fun, youthful and modern fashion.
I mixed and matched the bottoms with a cute bikini top from Victoria’s Secret, that I had also scored in America. This top was the perfect balance of cute and playful, not to mention it fits like a dream!

I don’t usually wear lipstick or make up to the beach hahahaha! I thought it would just be fun to include it in this post and to pay homage to 60s fashion.

Thanks again for visiting and stay tuned for part 2 😉

Outfit Post – My Go To Outfit

Top – August Street | Boyfriend Jeans – Jay Jays | Heels – Wittner

Photos taken by – Yunn Chin Photography

It’s almost time to go back to college but I thought I would share an outfit that I have been living in during the holiday period.

On the days that I’m not working especially on weekends, I want to wear something that’s comfortable, simple yet edgy. So I turn to the ultimate basics -jeans and a t-shirt.

This is my go to outfit on the days that I’m feeling a little insecure about my figure, especially after a night of scoffing down pizza (hahaha! super classy).

Without looking to relaxed, I use contrast and a pop of colour to add that edge. Which is why I absolutely love this t-shirt from August Street. Not only is the material kind to your skin but the back black panel of the T-shirt flatters your figure with the contrast of colour and length.

Another item that I have been living in are these Zebra white leather heels from Wittner. With supportive straps and block heels, they are by far the most comfortable shoes I have worn.

To finish off the look, I tie my hair up in a relaxed high ponytail and wear a colorful shade lippy. This shade is Diva from MAC, what can I say I am a MAC kinda girl hehehe.

This outfit is perfect for a casual brunch or even a dinner date with girlfriends, that’s why I have constantly recycled this look during the holiday period.

What’s your go outfit for the holidays?

Thanks again for visiting and I’ll see you guys and girls soon with another outfit post 😉

Outfit Post – Welcome 2014!!!

Sunglasses – Marc by Marc Jacobs | Playsuit – Mink | Flats – Court Couture

Photos taken by – Yunn Chin Photography

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!! I can’t believe 2014 is here already and this is my first official outfit post for this year!

I’m going to back this up a little to 2012 (give you guys a bit of an insight on how Fashiondiction came about).
Things had taken a turn for the worst for me, which left me lost and confused with what I wanted to do in life.
Going overseas and talking a trip away to Hawaii, Vegas and New York, helped me regain focus, gain my determination back and ignited my passion for life. I was determined to go into 2013 headstrong with no fear and with everything I had.

After 2 years of procrastinating, thinking about starting my own blog, I finally decided to go for it.
I stopped worrying and started planning, I stopped talking and started doing. I was determined to get what I didn’t get from the previous years, which was self-belief.

Since then, it has helped me learn more about myself, open doors for different opportunities, meet some incredible people and most importantly ignited my love for fashion, which made me start my education for a Bachelor in Fashion Marketing.
It’s ironic that the thing I had put off for years (fashion blogging) was the one thing that had opened so many doors and helped me grow into a better version of myself.

The frequent question that had been asked leading into 2014 was “What have you accomplished this year?” and for once I was happy to say “Everything I wanted to”. All the many new years resolutions I had set out in 2013 starting from my health, diet and exercise to my goals and education, I had crossed everything off the list.

The difference of 2013 to the many years before it, was that I didn’t wait for opportunities I looked for it, I took risks, made sacrifices and through the panic attacks, sleepless nights and tears it was all worth it.

2014 is no exception, this year I am going in even more determined then before, leaving nothing to waste or chance. Gone are the years that I procrastinated, wasted time and regret what I didn’t accomplish and blamed everyone but myself.

Lets all make 2014 bigger and better then the last!

What’s are your hopes, aspirations and new years resolutions for 2014 :)?
