The People of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Sydney

Photos by – Yunn Chin Photography

Since our first Fashion Week, blogging life has been crazier than ever! Definitely a response that we did not expect. However, we were pleasantly surprised and humbled by the amount of people who have taken an interest in what we do :). The down side is I have not been able to move at such a rapid pace, thus the delayed posts.
After catching a breath from the chaos, I have been able to re-organise and finally work to getting these posts up to date, starting with this one, YAY!!!

The people of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Sydney were both compelling and intriguing. I never imagined having the opportunity to attend such a celebrated event within the fashion world. In the past, I had imagined it as walking into what I would think is the equivalent of a dream like circus but in fashion. With gorgeous people who wore crazy outfits that were strange, aesthetically confusing, however, entertaining, shocking and at times humorous. I would never be able to make sense of why people would wear what they wore and the thought process behind it…..was it to seek attention, maybe?
It was not until I myself had attended the event, interacted, conversed and immersed myself in Fashion Week that I started to answer those questions.

What I had taken away from the eventful week was that the thought process behind each outfit, it was not for entertainment, earning the right for fashion exclusivity, nor gaining attention from the public or media (for most anyway). It was purely for self expression, creativity and making a personal statement of who you are through what you wore. There was a beauty about it, the concept of wearing what you wanted without the insecurities of boundaries and judgement, usually received from the public who easily misunderstands an individuals fashion choice. Fashion Week was a chance to be expressive, use fashion as a language and communicate with those who share that common understanding. I loved every minute of Fashion Week, it was like Christmas but in different sense hahaha!

Here are some of the styles that caught my eye, some of the people that inspire me and some of the people that I look up to who I had the pleasure of meeting 🙂

Which one is your favourite outfit?

Thanks for visiting and I’ll see you tomorrow with some long overdue outfit posts hehehe.

k-is-for-Kani

K is for Konnie, such a pleasure meeting a fellow fashion blogger who is so inspiring with her unique sense of style.

Margaret-Zhang

Who couldn’t forget the stunning Margaret Zhang from Shine By Three, so breathtakingly beautiful and every time I see here I get completely star struck and embarrass myself with unthought of jumbled words (*sigh, shakes head*). Besides the first embarrassing encounter I had with her, I thought It would be best to keep my distance hahaha!. Till next time, maybe I’ll have the guts to say hi again.

MBFWA_2014_NicoleWarne

Of course my absolute favourite fashion blogger Nicole Warne from Gary Pepper Vintage. She is the epitome of beauty, inside and out, the very person who inspired me to start my road into fashion and the person who inspires me till this day. It was such a dream come true being in the presence of blogger royalty.

Mercedes Benz Fashion Week – Day 2

Photos by – Yunn Chin Photography

Monday was the day that we got into the real swing of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week; with shows back to back, celebrities out and about, bloggers from all over dressed to impress and an army of photographers ready to attack with their long intimidating cameras.

We started the day bright and early from 8am and ended it right through to 9:30pm (Oh yeah, it was one long day, especially when your in 5 inch heels hahaha!).

We saw a total of six amazing runway shows:

AURELIO COSTARELLA

Soft flowing feathers, embellishments with detailed sequenced beading, colours of fuchsia, orange and gorgeous limes shouted 1920s parisienne glamour.
Gowns with feminine bodices, clean lines and light fabrics flowing so delicately down the runway. The collection was the right balance between femininity and strength.

STRATEAS. CARLUCCI

Sleek, long lines, different textures with a greys, navy and whites, this collection oozed sophistication at its best.
A mixture of textures from leather, knits, wrinkled sheer, layered fabrics and quilted jumpers stated a unique exploration of aesthetics and visual textures.

BY JOHNNY

My first encounter of By Johnny was Fashion Weekend and if you have followed me from the start you must know how obsessed I am with the label. Unfortunately I’m not the only one, the show had reached capacity and I was left outside only dreaming of what could be haha! But luckily Chin got photos so it was still a win win.

The collection was filled with pastels, ice cream swirls, bright pops of orange outlined with a contrasting black and white.
In all honestly it was a collection that I didn’t swoon over, however, who am I to comment when I didn’t see it in person. Whatever the case, by Johnny has left an imprint on my mind and I will always constantly be on the look out for their new creations.

GAIL SORRONDA

This was the first time I had seen one of Gail Sorronda’s collections and it was amazing!!!

Reminding me of my childhood designs with cute subtle floral prints and soft bubble sleeves. The delicately textured fabrics, layered pleated sheer mesh-like material with slight glimpses of houndstooth print through the collection. Unforgettable co-ordinates, ethereal and edwardian like pieces ignited a flame of “NEED” in my subconscious.

The collection left me desperately wanting more! Definitely unforgettable.

PHEONIX KEATING

Known for lady gaga’s crazy outfits, Phoenix Keating’s collection had a distinct difference from the rest.

Structured and edgy, the matador like themed collection was visually eye catching and daring.
For me the collection had left a commanding mark on the runway compared to the collections before it.

Mercedes Benz Fashion Festival Sydney – Trends (Romance Was Born)

Photographer – Yunn Chin

Out of the four nights of the Mercedes Benz Fashion Festival, my favourite runway show was without a doubt the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia – Trends. It was a runway show that gave the public a first look into the 2013 Spring and Summer trends from Mercedes Benz Fashion Week before it hits stores.
Over 200 looks from over 30 internationally recognised designers, jam-packed into one amazing runway show. So popular, it ran repeatedly for all four nights of the event.

Romance Was Born opened the show with romantic, cute and intricate dresses and jumpsuits which reminded me of Alice in Wonderland.
Once I saw these designs I immediately wanted to put down the camera because I was in complete awe of how amazing the designs were. I could swear I was salivating a little (hahaha gross I know); all I could think about was getting my hands on one of these dresses.
Even though there were so many crazy and memorable designs from the show, I have to admit that Romance Was Born definitely burnt a lasting impression in my mind.

My favourite piece out of the collection was the first dress. I died when I saw it! The transparent cotton candy pink floral print, the oversized Peter Pan collar, the subtle attachments of pom pom like flowers and the perfect distribution of puffed sleeves was enough to bring my excitement on overdrive.

I can’t wait to show you the rest of the gorgeous and diverse looks from the rest of the show, stay tuned :).
